BX cop, girlfriend dead in possible murder-suicide

RIVERDALE - Police are investigating the deaths of a Bronx police officer and his girlfriend as a possible murder-suicide.

Shirley Fontanez, 18, and Fred Maselli, 40, were found dead at Maselli?s 3611 Henry Hudson Parkway West residence Monday afternoon.

Fontanez?s family believes Maselli killed the woman before turning the gun on himself.

Fontanez?s mother, Maria Espinoza, said the couple had been dating for two years. She described Maselli as jealous and abusive and said her daughter had been trying to end the relationship.

Maselli said he had been planning his death and was not going to die alone, according to Espinoza. She believes Maselli discovered the girl?s plans to leave him, prompting the incident.
