BX family mourns man killed by MTA bus in Castle Hill

PARKCHESTER - A Bronx family is in mourning after a man was fatally struck by a MTA bus last night.

Police say the man, 76-year-old Eddie Cortes, was run over by a Bx22 bus crossing the street at the corner of Castle Hill and Starling avenues around 7 p.m. Thursday.

One of Cortes' longtime friends said he was a father of 12, a grandfather and a "Mr. Fix-It" everyone could count on.

Sources say the bus driver is a 19-year veteran of the MTA and has a clean record. Police are not filing charges.
