BX Historical Society seeks donations for Poe Cottage

THE BRONX - The Bronx Historical Society says it needs an extra $2 million to help keep Edgar Allan Poe's cottage in Poe Park running.

For the past 10 weeks, Poe Cottage has undergone an extensive $1 million restoration.  The Bronx Historical Society says the project is being funded by federal and city grants, as well as donations.

Members of the non-profit organization say they need the extra $2 million to help maintain the tourist attraction. They say it costs at least $300,000 a year to run.

When the renovation is complete in about nine months, members say the cottage will look exactly as Poe left it more than 100 years ago.
