THE BRONX - Hospitals throughout The Bronx are working to raise awareness about heart disease as part of February's American Heart Month.
According to statistics, someone in the United States passes away as a result of having a heart attack every 34 seconds, making cardiovascular disease the Number 1 killer in the country.
Doctors say those statistics are pushing them to remind residents in the borough that it's never too late to start living a healthy and active lifestyle. They say it's important to visit the doctor and get screened for signs of heart disease.
Montefiore Medical Center will also be hosting heart lectures and forums throughout the month.
