BX Jews mark start of Passover at sundown

(04/18/10) BRONX - Many last-minute shoppers visited kosher markets around The Bronx today to prepare for Passover, which began at sundown.

The Riverdale Kosher Market says shoppers came in throughout the day looking for more to add to their dinner table. The store says it typically staffs extra workers to handle the Passover crowds.

Passover is a Jewish holy day that honors the story of Exodus. The celebration culminates in a dinner where traditional dishes are eaten as the story of the ancient Israelites being freed from slavery in Egypt is shared.
