THE BRONX - Police officers from The Bronx hit the pavement this morning for a memorial race along Pelham Parkway in honor of those killed on Sept. 11.

Officers from the 49th Precinct have shut down North Pelham Parkway from Eastchester Road to White Plains Road for their annual 9/11 Memorial Run.

Today's event was also held in memory of Lt. Thomas Celess, who passed away a year before Sept. 11, 2001. The officers decided to combine the two memorials into a 3.1-mile run as a way to encourage residents to always remember the fallen.

After the race, the runners were invited to come together at the nearby Pine Bar and Grill.
