BX residents angry over proposed fare hikes

Residents across the Bronx attended a meeting at Hostos Community College tonight to voice their opposition to the MTA?s plan to raise fares in order

THE BRONX - Residents across the Bronx attended a meeting at Hostos Community College tonight to voice their opposition to the MTA?s plan to raise fares in order to help close a nearly $900 million budget gap.

Under the MTA?s proposal, unlimited monthly MetroCards would rise from $89 to $104. The MTA would also introduce a capped monthly card that provides 90 rides for $99. They would also raise the fare for a single-ride MetroCard by one dollar.

The MTA board is expected to vote on the proposal sometime in October.
