BX residents hope Circuit City revitalizes strip mall

PELHAM GARDEN - Construction has begun at a Pelham Garden shopping center that was left vacant for two years.

A Circuit City electronics store is set to occupy the 35,000 square-foot space vacated by an A&P supermarket in 2005. In addition to the reconstruction, the strip mall?s 630-space parking lot will be repaved.

Two more stores are expected to accompany Circuit City in the shopping center. Residents say they are excited about the redevelopment of the spot, but some feel the area would be better served by a new supermarket.

?We need food,? says resident Glenn Baksh. ?We don't need electronics.?

Northeast Bronx Association officials expect renovations to be completed by February and are hoping for a spring grand opening.
