THE BRONX - A group of Bronx residents are learning what it takes to live off the land in the Parks Department's 'Wilderness Survival Program.'

The program was held at Van Cortlandt Park. The participants were taught the basics, such as what is needed to gather food, water and how to start a fire.

The participants hope they will never have to use the survival skills learned but if they do, they say they are prepared.
