PELHAM - Local residents are protesting illegal barbecuing in Bronx Park, saying the popular summer activity creates too much litter.

Despite signs prohibiting barbecues, neighbors say people have them anyway and that the New York City Parks Department is failing to do its job of preventing them.

A spokesman for the Parks Department says the agency has received several complaints about illegal barbecuing in the Bronx and is making sure officers monitor the park more frequently.

Bronx residents can legally barbecue in Crotona Park, Ferry Point Park, Pelham Bay Park, St. Mary's Park and Van Cortland Park.
