THE BRONX - This weekend may be all about blue for New Yorkers, but today people across the borough dressed up in red to support women's heart health.

Dr. Julie Ramos is a cardiologist at Montefiore Medical Center in Norwood. Today, she and several dozen medical staffers at the hospital took part in National Wear Red Day.

"Heart disease is one of those that most women think affects men, but it really does affect women in a very large proportion," Ramos says.

In fact, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women - something that Roxanne Watson knows all too well. For over five years, she suffered from congestive heart failure until she got a heart transplant.

Ramos says frequent checks of blood pressure and cholesterol are just as vital to keeping one's heart in good shape as healthy eating and daily exercise.
