BX restaurants excluded from NYC Restaurant Week

THE BRONX - Restaurant Week kicks off today, but not a single Bronx dining spot is participating in the citywide event. The event is organized by NYC & Company, which creates a list of participating restaurants on its website, NYCGO.com. To be on the list, restaurant owners must pay an annual fee and qualify as a dining establishment. However, since most of the restaurants on the list are in Manhattan, some Bronx restaurant owners say they thought their borough was excluded from the start. "Had we known, we probably would have been the first ones involved," restaurant manager Michelle Liebman said. Other owners say not enough is being done to get the word out to Bronx businesses, and that the confusion is not at all surprising. The borough president's office is working with the Bronx Tourism Council to create a Bronx restaurant week catering specifically to the borough.
