BX school teaching gay and lesbians self-defense

Gay, lesbian and transgender Bronx residents are being offered the opportunity to take self-defense classes to help protect themselves from possible attackers through an organization

HUNTS POINT - Gay, lesbian and transgender Bronx residents are being offered the opportunity to take self-defense classes to help protect themselves from possible attackers through an organization called Pride Force.

The classes, like the one offered at the Bronx Academy for Arts and Dance, allow students to learn the basics of self-defense.

According to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, the number of anti-gay attacks has increased throughout the city.

One student, Jesus Santiago, says thanks to the classes he was able to fend off an attack a few weeks ago while on a train.
