BX schools aren't head of the class on city's progress report

THE BRONX - The city's Department of Education has released its annual progress report for all 495 public schools, and The Bronx did not fare very well. Officials say The Bronx's schools had the second-lowest performance in the five boroughs. Just 29 percent of schools in The Bronx received an "A" grade. Five percent of Bronx schools got an "F," the highest in the city. Some of the schools that got failing marks were Lehman High School, which also got an "F" last year, and Samuel Gompers High School, which is currently under review. The progress report is designed to measure school performance and how well-prepared students are for college.
