THE BRONX - A group of Bronx special-needs tenants say they were scammed out of thousands of dollars by the housing director in their building.

Lantern Community Services, which owns the Jasper Hall building on Melrose Avenue, says George Henry used a forged letterhead to collect fake $1,200 security deposits that he pocketed.

According to residents, they were told they would be evicted if they didn't pay the deposit. Lantern Group says Henry was fired after they found out about the scam on Feb. 14.

The building owner says that everyone will be paid back, but that it could take some time to recover all the money. The NYPD and the district attorney's fraud unit have also been notified.
