BX straphangers still waiting for Buhre Ave. station repairs

THE BRONX - Riders at the Buhre Avenue subway stop say they want the MTA to repair their decrepit station as soon as possible. Local residents say the elevated station is falling apart, and City Councilman James Vacca (D-District 13) says construction has taken far too long. "They're doing patch work and the work in many cases is not good enough," Vacca said. "It's upsetting, it's dangerous and I've already let the MTA know." An MTA spokesperson said work has been delayed because crews had to carefully remove an old transformer box found behind a staircase. The station was to be completely renovated, but the MTA put the plans on hold due to recent budget cuts. However, according to the MTA, the station is scheduled to be revamped during 2012, pending budget issues.
