BX teen claims police officer attacked him

THE BRONX - The family of a Bronx teenager is calling for a criminal investigation after it says police used excessive force at a local deli Friday night.

According to 19-year-old Jorge Cartagena, Jr., he was out with a friend at around 10:30 p.m. when he biked to Westchester Avenue to buy a sandwich. He says a police officer approached him to say he could get a ticket for riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.

Cartagena says he wasn't given a ticket and continued inside the deli where the officer's partner heard him comment on the encounter. He says that's when the officer snapped and attacked him.

The NYPD says it is using the deli's surveillance video to investigate.
