THE BRONX - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Department of Transportation have announced they'll be installing cameras along Fordham Road to catch cars that drive in bus-only lanes.

Officials say the cameras will help speed up travel time and prevent cars from blocking buses. Drivers caught breaking the law will be slapped with a $115 fine.

According to the city traffic code, vehicles are permitted to use bus lanes only to make the next available right turn or to quickly drop off and pick up passengers.

Some drivers say the cameras are too intrusive, and there are too many of them on the roads already.

The state Legislature authorized camera enforcement along select bus service routes. The cameras are expected to be up next year.
