STAMFORD - Police are investigating after a car crashed on the front lawn of a Stamford home.

Authorities say the incident began when a driver ran a stop sign this morning on Tom's Road. They say he sped away when he saw a police car.

Authorities told News 12 that by the time they caught up with the vehicle on Oak Lawn Avenue, the driver had fled.

The daughter of Maria Conte, the woman who owns the house where the vehicle crashed, says her mom is actually used to having cars crash onto her lawn. Conte says she's been fighting for years to get a stop light installed to manage the traffic.

Neighbors say that three or four cars have crashed on Conte's lawn in the past.

"It's like it's targeted," said neighbor Cathy Cafagna. "Everything always happens to her house."
