Census Bureau discovers hiring spike in the Bronx

(09/27/10) THE BRONX - New numbers by the U.S. Census Bureau are providing a glimmer of hope for unemployed Bronx residents.

Its numbers found that in lieu of some of the highest unemployment rates in the state, there was a hiring spike of .2 percent in the Bronx.

Wilma Alonso, of the Fordham Business Improvement District, speculates that the increase may be attributed to retail development projects which have attracted businesses and jobs. The Fordham Place Development brought in megastores such as Sears, Walgreens and Best Buy.
