THE BRONX - Charges have been dropped against the woman who took a 3-month-old baby from a Bronx family for hours without their consent.

Wendy Santana was accused of taking Daniel Rodriguez Jr. without notifying his family. Santana, the child’s baby sitter, was facing charges of custodial interference and luring of an individual.

Those charges have now been dismissed by the Bronx district attorney because the child’s mother did not appear in court today.

Olga Mejia, the child's mother, says Santana said she was taking the baby shopping with her at around noon on Sunday. An entire day went by without Santana returning the boy or contacting the family.

After returning the baby last night, Mejia told police she wanted Santana charged with kidnapping.

It is still unclear why Santana kept the child without notifying his family.
