THE BRONX - It's a brand new season with a brand new head coach for the Maritime College baseball program.

Charlie Barbieri is now leading the Privateers. At just 35 years old, he's more than a decade younger than his predecessor, which is something his players say they greatly appreciate.

Barbieri spent the last seven seasons at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, leading the Hornets to a division title just last season.

However, when the position became available at Maritime, Barbieri knew it was his chance to leap to the next level. He says he's fortunate to have a great team who works hard and is looking forward to doing great things with the program.
