THE BRONX - A Chilean native who migrated to the Bronx when she was a 4-year-old will be graduating from New York Medical College this week.

Tania Cossio’s passion for medicine came in part from the language and cultural differences her family faced in the United States. Many times, she translated while her mother was with doctors.

Cossio received her master’s degree in public health from Yale University and has worked for the Dominican Sister Health Program in the South Bronx. Her clinical internship was at Montefiore Medical Center.

Cossio will graduate Thursday and hopes to carry out her residency at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
