THE BRONX - The 50,000-square-foot YMCA center that Edenwald residents have been seeking for decades is nearing reality, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

De Blasio, speaking at the site on East 229th Street alongside Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and other officials, said it will include a basketball court, indoor track, gymnasium and more.

YMCA programming will be offered for all ages including youth camps, a teen center, swimming lessons and diabetes prevention.

A 27-acre property owned by the city Administration for Children's Services will house the facility next to the Edenwald Houses.

Officials said the project will create 100 permanent jobs and even more construction jobs for locals.

It is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2018 with a completion date in 2020.
