KINGSBRIDGE - The City Council passed a bill yesterday that would bar police from turning over undocumented immigrants who have been arrested for low-level crimes.

Under the bill, immigrants with otherwise clean records who commit petty crimes will not be turned over to authorities to be deported. The bill passed 40-7.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will likely sign the bill into law.
