City cracks down on illegal home improvements

THE BRONX - The Department of Consumer Affairs is cracking down on illegal home improvements throughout the city.

The agency says it investigated more than 386 companies in the last two months and found that one in five contractors were operating illegally, including several in The Bronx.

Home owners are advised to help protect themselves by always getting references, never paying in cash, and getting all estimates and contracts in writing.
