THE BRONX - Thousands of Bronx and city kids will get to participate in critical after-school programs, the mayor announced Thursday.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city will boost funding of its Out-of-School Time program to more than $13 million in January. The money will allow 80,000 children citywide to stay in safe environments after the school bell rings.
"Kids are feeling better ? levels of efficacy and self confidence ? and that will put them in a better position to succeed," said Christopher Causo of the Department of Youth and Community Development.
Students will take part in academic, cultural and recreational activities from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The program runs through holiday breaks and during the summer.
