THE BRONX - City Island residents are suing the city in a final attempt to stop a modern bridge from being built in their community.

State Sen. Jeff Klein joined residents to announce the lawsuit, saying it's a last resort after months of pleading with the Department of Transportation to reconsider its proposal.

Neighbors want the new City Island Bridge to resemble the simple, historic one they have now so that it fits in with the area’s charm. They argue that the new bridge plans are too flashy and too expensive, coming in at about $102 million.

Klein says that a temporary restraining order against the DOT has already been granted.
