CITY ISLAND - City Island residents are recovering from Tropical Storm Irene after strong winds and high waves wreaked havoc on the community. Homes along the shoreline were pounded by rough surf, and several boats were detached from their anchors and sunk. Paul Laddomada and Maura Mandrano, who own Sail Maker Marina on City Island, say they have all their boats in check, but took in around $50,000 worth of damage. The island's west side was the most severely affected, as docks were torn up and cement blocks were thrown into the water. However, the marina owners say they will be ready the next time intense weather threatens. "Every time there's another storm, we learn something and we improve the marina," Laddomada said.
