NEW YORK - Lawyers for the city have filed an appeal against a court decision to strike down a ban on oversized sugary drinks.

A judge ruled against the city's plan to keep sodas and other sugar-laden beverages less than 16 ounces just one day before the law was set to take effect earlier this month.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the rule will help combat obesity, but critics argue that the Board of Health is overstepping its authority.
