THE BRONX - Some much-needed change could be coming to two of the city's largest vacant lots in the South Bronx.

The Housing and Preservation Department is looking to build affordable housing at East 149th Street near Brook Avenue and Bergen Street. The city-owned land has not been used in years.

Although many Bronx residents believe affordable housing is needed in the area, some others think the land should be used for other purposes, such as stores.

The city is now working to rezone the area for residential development. Submissions for the project are open from now until July 3.
