City may expand cabs to outer boroughs

THE BRONX - Catching cabs could become easier in outer boroughs.

There could be an additional 6,000 cabs designated solely to pick up street hails in the outer boroughs if the city has its way, according to the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The city plans to add 1,500 medallions to its fleet of cabs, bringing the total to 15,000. The TLC commissioner took the plan to Albany to push for support from lawmakers.
