City opens cooling centers during 2-day heat wave

NEW YORK - (AP) - New York City is trying to help people cool offduring the hot weather.

The city says it will again open air conditioned publicbuildings to visitors during business hours today.

The National Weather Service says the heat index, which factorsin the humidity, could reach 100 today.

The city says more than 228,000 people have visited coolingcenters this summer since the first heat wave in June.
