THE BRONX - The city today opened a new state-of-the-art EMS station servicing the North Bronx.

Station 27 will serve the communities in Woodlawn, Kingsbridge and Riverdale, according to fire officials. The station is built on the property where FDNY Ladder Company 39 was once located. That firehouse was closed by the city after the building was found to have structural damage.

Residents in the area had asked the city to build another firehouse in the area. The city says the EMS station will be able to serve the community and provide quicker response times.
