THE BRONX - Millions of dollars in funding for the city's parks are on the chopping block under Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 2012 budget proposal. The city's Department of Parks and Recreation faces a 17 percent cut to its total budget. If the mayor's proposal is approved, up to 800 jobs could be slashed. New York City's 2,100 parks would be affected, as would park maintenance and four public pools. Park advocates are fighting to restore $33.4 million to the parks budget.
