City pest control workers lose jobs

BROOKLYN - More than half of the city?s pest control workers lost their jobs as part of budget cuts.

16 of 27 pest control aides and two supervisors are being laid off.

Pest control workers from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regularly patrol neighborhoods. Resolving rat or other pest problems could now take longer, according to DC-37 which represents the workers.

The city says the cuts will save about $1.5 million per year.
