NEW YORK - (AP) - A New York City politician wants fast-foodcompanies to stop giving away toys or trading cards with meals thatare unhealthy for children.

City Councilman Leroy Comrie says he plans to introduce a billWednesday that will ban kid-friendly giveaways from fast-food mealsthat fail to meet nutritional guidelines.

He says the bill will create an incentive for restaurants tocook up healthier options.

McDonald's Happy Meals, for example, would have to be under 500calories, as well as low in fat and sodium.

The law was inspired by a similar San Francisco ordinance.

The New York State Restaurant Association said it was opposed tothe legislation. A spokesman for the city chapter said the bill"robs parents of choice" and will be a burden on restaurants.
