City set to launch improved bus service

THE BRONX - A new, improved bus service is coming to the Bronx this summer.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the city?s new select bus service Tuesday. The service is set to run along Fordham Road and will seek to improve service on one of the busiest bus routes in the entire city.

The new BX 12 service will go from Pelham Parkway to Broadway and 207th Street, connecting with several subway stops along the way.

?It will make travel faster to businesses, universities, hospitals and the New York Botanical Garden,? said Bloomberg.

The new buses will feature innovations such as the chance for passengers to pre-pay for their ride. If the service goes well, it may expand to other routes in the city, but only if the City Council approves congestion pricing.

The select bus service will be available on Fordham Road starting June 29 - .
