Cleanup continues on Jerome Ave. after water main break

THE BRONX - Crews are continuing cleanup efforts after a water main break on Jerome Avenue and East 177th Street this morning caused major headaches for residents, businesses and commuters.

The roadway was flooded with more than a foot of water, causing traffic headaches and numerous bus routes to detour. The 4 train was also skipping the 176th Street stop for most of the day. As of this evening, most bus and subway services have been restored, but are running with delays.

Many residents in the area have been left without water and gas service after the water main break necessitated turning off gas service to prevent further issues.

NYPD officials say residents unlucky enough to have parked their cars in the flooded area may have to wait until Thursday to retrieve their vehicles.

Officials say that it could take days to completely clean up the mess.
