Community Board 7, Department of Transportation propose traffic safety changes for Williamsbridge Oval Park

Community members have been fighting for new sidewalks

Community members have been fighting for new sidewalks and crosswalks, and a slow zone.

THE BRONX - More traffic safety changes are on the way for Williamsbridge Oval Park.

Community Board 7 met with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Wednesday night to discuss safety improvements around the park, especially at the entrance on Bainbridge Avenue and Van Courtlandt East. Officials say they're working on making the area a slow zone and expect to have new crosswalks paved as early as July.

Residents have long complained about dangerous conditions for pedestrians. They previously fought for and won speed bumps in the area, but say additional measures are still needed, including more street signs.
