THE BRONX - Major changes could be on the way for the borough’s own Van Cortlandt Park.

Community Board 8 voted in favor of a multimillion-dollar renovation plan Tuesday night, which contains a long list of possible improvements for the more than 1,000-acre green space.

Proposed changes include adding more playgrounds, bridges and an outdoor theater, along with renovations to the bike trails with an updated design that better connects the paths.

The city's Parks Department had held dozens of public meetings about the renovations, and went through a year and a half of reviews to come up with the overall proposal.

Park advocates say they're thrilled with the plan, but still have some concerns, such as how all the additions will be funded and then maintained.

The entire revamp is estimated to cost more than $26 million. With the community board's approval, it's now up to the city to put it all in motion.
