THE BRONX - The director of the Hunts Point Multi-Service Center announced Wednesday that the center will restructure, but not shut down as recent rumors had indicated.
Executive Director Manuel Rosa says financial problems have forced the center to undergo a restructuring, which includes laying off workers, closing the dental program and reducing hours of operation.
"We have to make difficult and painful decisions," Rosa says.
As programs at the center are being phased out, staffers and patients fear the non-profit organization is on the path to closure. Rosa says the center, which offers a range of health and human services, will remain open.
