UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - The Northwest Bronx Clergy and Community Coalition held a rally Thursday in support of dozens of tenants living in a University Heights building without gas for more than a year.

The building has about 40 apartments rented to individuals or families.

Now that the temperatures are falling, residents are demanding the landlord fix the problem.

The building's management company blames the issue on an ongoing problem with Con Edison.

Trouble began with a gas leak in August 2014, so the utility company shut off the gas.

According to the management company, it fixed the problem and filed for a Con Ed inspection, but not all of the tenants were home when inspectors arrived.

Tenants say they've been asked to stay home from work on other inspection dates, only for no one to come.

A Con Ed spokesman says the management company never gave proper documentation that would warrant restored gas service.
