THE BRONX - Con Edison worked to repair a gas main break that forced some Bronx residents out of their homes Monday.

According to fire investigators, a private construction company was digging a trench for a water pipe on East 233rd Street, near White Plains Road, when it accidentally struck a gas line.

Tenants on one side of the street were without gas most of Monday while crews worked to repair the pipe burst. Gas has since been restored.

No injuries were reported.
