THE BRONX - South Bronx maintenance workers threatening to throw in the towel say they've bought more time in the fight over their contracts.

Staff members with the Local 32BJ Union at the Concourse Village residential complex now have until Sept. 15 to negotiate a deal for their health insurance and pension plans, which were originally set to expire on Aug. 31.

Union members have already voted in favor of a strike if an agreement is not reached on a concrete benefits plan.

Workers are also demanding better wages, but say that the co-op board is instead opting for a pay freeze.
