THE BRONX - After months of legal battles surrounding a maintenance fee hike at the Parkchester South Condominiums, the board and residents have reached a settlement.

In February 2016, the building managers raised the monthly maintenance fee nearly 16 percent to help with building repairs. That meant roughly $80 to $120 a month per unit over a two-year period.

Since then, state Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda and state Sen. Ruben Diaz have been fighting on residents' behalf, filing a lawsuit against the Parkchester South Condominiums and the board in March.

All parties met for a town hall-style meeting Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkchester. They have now reached an agreement under which qualifying residents will be able to pay a lesser amount of money per month over a longer period of time -- four years.

If the condo owners agree with the settlement over the next few weeks, they will then move forward with the plan, meaning residents will be able to apply to find out if they qualify for the lower-income plan.
