Confusion over parking ticket times costing BX drivers

WESTCHESTER SQUARE - Muni-meters were supposed to cut down on parking problems throughout the Bronx, but confusion about ticket times is costing drivers some hefty fines.

In 2009, the Department of Transportation sent a letter to a parking advocacy group saying that time on one receipt could be applied to any parking spot. But residents say traffic agents continue to ticket drivers who do just that, and judges are upholding the tickets.

According to a City Council survey, multiple 311 operators said that time was not transferable from one spot to another, while DOT officials said they were unsure.

Some City Council members plan to propose legislation to put an end to what they're calling a parking shell game if the DOT does not correct the problem quickly.
