Congregation coping with loss of pastor, worshipers

BAYCHESTER - Churchgoers in Baychester are mourning the loss of their pastor and fellow parishoners, all of whom were killed in an accident Sunday on the New York State Thruway.

Worshippers at Joy Fellowship Christian Assemblies gathered Sunday to cope with the loss of Pastor Simon White, his wife, sister and others. They were joined by pastors from neighboring churches.

Police say fourteen members of the church were headed to a banquet in Schenectedy, N.Y. when their van blew a tire, flipped and ejected six people across the interstate in Woodbury.

Assistant ministers say they are at a loss for words about how to address their devastated congregation.

A vigil honoring the 55-year-old pastor and his wife will be held at the church at 6 p.m. tonight.
