THE BRONX - The Senate is expected to vote today on a bill that could give thousands of illegal immigrants a chance to stay in the U.S.

Called the DREAM act, it aims to help undocumented students obtain legal status if they attend college or join the military. More than 10,000 undocumented students graduate from city high schools each year.

The bill would allow young illegal immigrants to apply for permanent resident status under these conditions: -They need to be under the age of 35. -Have arrived in the U.S. before the age of 16. -Have lived here for the last five years.-Have obtained a high school diploma.

Critics say the bill is simply easy amnesty.
