Construction delays cause headaches at Harris Ball Fields

THE BRONX - Construction delays are causing headaches for residents who live in Bedford Park.

The Department of Parks and Recreation says it will fail to meet deadlines for completion of the Harris Ball Fields. The area has been under construction for four years and was slated to open last summer.

The city says high levels of lead contaminants were found in the soil which forced officials to push back the opening of the park. Park advocates say the construction has already cost more than $8 million.

A Parks Department spokesperson says they expect construction to be completed by August and for the fields to be ready for play by Spring of next year.
